Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine is now entering a new phase in order to meet the demands of worldwide Open Access. From June 2008 a page charge will apply to all published papers. Authors can still submit papers to us free of charge. We will complete the editorial administration and send them for peer review at no cost to the authors. For papers accepted for publication, a fee of €30/printed page will apply. Excluded from this fee will be Reviews, Invited Special Reports, Letters to the Editor, News letters. Also excluded are authors coming from countries according to WHO with too low GNI per capita.

The editor-in-chief of the Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine, Gunnar Grimby, has been awarded the Herman Flax Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented to professor emeritus Gunnar Grimby at the 4th World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) in Seoul, Korea, in June 2007. This award is the highest honour of the ISPRM, and is awarded every two years.

During the second week of February 2007, we discovered that external manipulation of an editorial office computer of Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine (JRM) had occured: In an E-mail to the contributors to the White Book of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Europe, published as supplement 45, January 2007, the link pointing to our web site (with the White Book pdf file) was changed, pointing instead to the web site of Europa Medicophysica (with their version of the White Book). Almost simultaneously, we discovered that the open access to the JRM version of the White Book through our home page had been removed (after having been openly accessible since publication).

Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine is a non-profit international journal owned by the Foundation for Rehabilitation Information. Until now, we have consulted a publishing company, Taylor & Francis, to take care of all publishing matters. In preparation for the transition towards electronic and open access publication, the Society has chosen to handle the entire procedure within the editorial office. Thus, from 2007 and onwards we will no longer have a commercial publisher.
