We performed this study in order to identify global epidemiologic trends for urticaria over the last 3 decades. We found that clinicians should target healthcare resources for treatment of urticaria towards females, children, and patients from regions of lower gross domestic product per capita, as these are the demographic groups most affected by urticaria.

Obesity, inactivity, smoking and high alcohol consumption are implicated in psoriasis and cardio-vascular disease risk. Specialised training could enable healthcare professionals (HCPs) to discuss behaviour change with patients. We showed that the PsoWell™ training programme, based on motivational interviewing principles, increased HCPs confidence and skills to integrate behaviour change and whole person management into standard consultations. There is an appetite among HCPs to improve psychology provision within dermatology services using the PsoWell™ model, especially for managing patients with high health risk behaviours. HCPs recognise that the current psychology service provision is insufficient, and want an integrated specialist psychological support within dermatology services.

Patients’ phenotypic characteristics might be associated with melanoma aggressiveness, but the evidence is scarce. This study examined the associations between pigmentary characteristics, naevi and melanoma thickness. Data from the Norwegian Women and Cancer (NOWAC) study were analysed. By 2014, 1,243 women were diagnosed with a primary melanoma, and 1,140 had information on thickness. Using o ...

Data regarding the impact of psychological factors in patients with pemphigus is sparse. This study evaluated the correlation of demographic, clinical, and psychological parameters with quality of life in 58 patients with pemphigus. Illness perception showed a realistic view, with the highest scores for cyclical course (3.35 ± 0.09) and treatment control (3.08 ± 0.06). Mean scores for pe ...

The difference between men and women in the impact of keratinocyte carcinomas on quality of life has not been widely studied. This study of 364 patients with keratinocyte carcinoma, measured quality of life using the self-administered 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) and Skindex-29. Results for both the physical and the mental components of SF-12 were worse in women than in men. For the me ...

Urticaria has a high socioeconomic burden worldwide. However, the global epidemiology of urticaria and its geographical and temporal trends are not well studied. Using the Global Burden of Disease dataset, the aim of this study was to analyse the age-standardized prevalence, incidence, years lived with disability, and mean duration of urticaria in 195 countries from 1990 to 2017. In addition, the ...

Darier disease is a severe, rare autosomal dominant inherited skin condition caused by mutations in the ATP2A2 gene encoding sarcoendoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase isoform 2 in the endoplasmic reticulum. Since sarcoendoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase isoform 2 is expressed in most tissues, and intracellular calcium homeostasis is of fundamental importance, it is conceivable that other organs besides ...
