The steeply rising incidence of skin cancer triggered us to investigate the overall costs of skin cancer management in the Netherlands. We feel the results of this manuscript are important because it demonstrates that due to the high volume and introduction of systemic drugs, skin cancer is the fourth most costly cancer in the Netherlands. While future projections show an even alarming increase. Our study therefore warrants optimising the efficient use of resources for sustainable healthcare.

The Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM, 0–28 points) is a self-assessed, repeatable measurement tool for measuring atopic dermatitis (AD) severity. However, whether POEM score is influenced by allergic comorbidities and whether POEM’s severity banding is applicable in web-based surveys for AD remain unclear. A web-based questionnaire survey was conducted in 329 patients with AD. POEM, sel ...

Although recent therapeutic developments raise hope, melanoma remains a devastating disease with a need for new treatment targets. In other tumours prohormone convertases have been shown to be pro-tumourigenic as they are involved in processing preforms of matrix-metalloproteinases, growth factors and adhesion molecules. The aim of this study was to look for new treatment options for melanoma, by ...

The effect of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplements in patients with psoriasis vulgaris has previously been investigated, but interventions varied in source, composition, dose, administration route and duration of treatment. The observed beneficial effects in patients with psoriasis vulgaris using herring roe oil as a dietary supplement prompted this investigation. This randomised, double ...

Intravenous ferric carboxymaltose is increasingly used to treat iron deficiency. However, a common side-effect is paravenous extravasation of iron preparations, resulting in cutaneous siderosis. Quality-switched (QS) lasers and, recently, picosecond (PS) lasers have been used to treat these hyperpigmentations with variable success. The optimal treatment protocol remains unclear. The aims of this s ...

In each participant 1 axilla was treated with zinc oxide and the other with a placebo for 13 days. The microbi ...

Sutton naevi can sometimes present a challenging appearance with atypical presentation, also by dermoscopy. Reflectance confocal microscopy could help in making a diagnosis. This study prospectively collected two groups of Sutton nevi: the first one was composed by typical white halo naevi monitored for one year (13, 23%) and the second one was made up of atypical lesions excised in order to rule ...
