This observational study (1) examines the association between duration of untreated psychosis and age of onset in a large sample of consecutive patients with delusional infestation. The study, based on data from clinics which specialize in the treatment of such patients, shows that later age of onset and a longer duration of untreated illness are associated with significantly poorer outcome. This once more demonstrates the need to better disseminate awareness and understanding of delusional infestations among dermatologists and also the need of measures to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment, in order to improve the outcome.
