Abstract
[125l)hydroxy benzyl pindolol (HYP) was used in a binding assay to compare the number and affinity of beta-adrenergic receptors on circulating lymphocytes from 8 patients with severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and 8 age-matched controls. The number of receptors per lymphocyte (RT) found in the atopic group (856± 132) was not statistically different from that of the controls (702±107). By contrast, the dissociation constant (KD) was significantly higher in patients with AD (KD =20.8±3.3x10-11 M) than in controls (KD=12.6±3.45 x10-11 M). The results thus indicate that lymphocyte beta-adrenergic receptors from patients with AD have a lower affinity for HYP than those of controls.
